KitchenAid Professional 600 Stand Mixer Review

KitchenAid Professional 600It’s sure hard to look at the KitchenAid Professional 600 stand mixer and not instantly be seduced by its stature and elegance.

I must admit, it does give my beloved Artisan a run for its money… But is the KitchenAid Professional 600 all show and no substance?

Let’s have a look at its features and find out what actual owners of the KitchenAid 600 have to say about it

KitchenAid Professional 600 Stand Mixer Features

KitchenAid Professional 600 Stand MixerHead Type

The first feature that differentiates KitchenAid Professional mixers from more traditional KitchenAid stand mixers is the bowl-lift design. The mixing bowl is positioned on pegs which sit on top of two arms, and then the crank is used to raise the bowl into the mixing position before powering on. When you are finished, the crank lowers the bowl back down so that you can remove the bowl and beater.

Heavy-Duty Motor

The 575-watt heavy-duty motor with commercial-style motor protection of the KitchenAid Professional 600 mixer lets it handle heavy bread and pizza dough with confidence.

6-Quart Bowl Capacity

KitchenAid Professional 600 Stand Mixer ReviewKitchenAid Professional 600The second feature that distinguishes the KitchenAid Professional 600 series mixer is its 6-quart size bowl made of polished stainless steel. According to KitchenAid, this 14-cup average capacity bowl will let you mix 13 dozen cookies, 8 loaves of bread or 8 pounds of mashed potatoes – pure music to a home baker’s ears! An ergonomically designed comfort handle makes the bowl easy to disengage from the base and maneuver.

Included with the KitchenAid 600 mixer are a flat beater and a dough hook both made of burnished metal, a stainless steel 6-wire whip, and a pouring shield.

Planetary Mixing Action

The planetary mixing action which is a trademark of all KitchenAid stand mixers is designed so that the beater spirals to 67 different touch points within the bowl, ensuring that their mixers achieve the highest beater-to-bowl coverage in the industry. Utmost mixing efficiency, quicker results – what’s there not to like?

Mixing Speeds

Specific to KitchenAid Professional mixers, the all-steel gears transmission and electronic speed sensor work together with the soft-start mixing feature to ensure smooth operation. And in case of overload, the Kitchen Aid Professional 600 shuts off automatically in order to protect the motor, just like a commercial mixer.

Direct Drive Transmission

Because it needs less space and fewer parts to move power than regular transmission, direct drive transmission is more efficient. And that’s why a small appliance like the KitchenAid 600 can be so powerful. I’m afraid that’s the best I can do on the subject. I don’t cook and I’m technically challenged… maybe there’s a connection there somewhere.

KitchenAid Professional 600 Stand Mixer Review: the Pros

Kitchen Aid Professional 600 stand mixer reviews make it clear that people love their mixer and stress the following benefits:

Overall Efficiency

. a sturdy, heavy, solid small appliance which gets the job done without a quiver, even when run at top speed;
. ease of operation including a soft start mixing feature coupled with an electronic speed sensor;
. a surprisingly quiet machine, given its power and the heavy tasks it can master.

KitchenAid Professional 600 Stand Mixer ColorsThe spiral dough hook exclusive to the Professional series makes mixing heavy bread and pizza dough a breeze. In fact, they stress that it would take them about 15 minutes of hand kneading to accomplish what their mixer does in 4 or 5 minutes at speed 2. 🙂

Its 6-quart bowl allows the Kitchen Aid Professional 600 to mix large batches of dough. People report
mixing two large loaves of bread, 3 cake mixes, 2 dozen large bagels, or 15 large cinnamon rolls without a problem.

KitchenAid Professional mixers are well designed for easy cleaning.

Optional Attachments

Homemakers appreciate the increased versatility provided by the multipurpose power hub which can transform any KitchenAid stand mixer into a grinder, pasta maker, ice cream maker, juicer, shredder, strainer, and more – a great space and money saving feature.

KitchenAid 600 Reviews: the Cons

Ease of Use

Some owners found that the lift-bowl design made it hard to scrape the bowl, while others found it easier. The other complaint is that the whisk or paddle must be removed (dropping it into the mixture) in order to take off the bowl.

The statuesque dimensions of the Kitchenaid Professional stand mixer can work against it. Its 16 1/2″ height makes it hard to fit under top cabinets, while its 30-lb weight is a burden to store away.

Though they are easy to clean, the burnished metal flat beater and spiral dough hook are not dishwasher safe which can be an issue for those who hate hand washing.

Past Complaints

The main complaint about gear box failure has been corrected by KitchenAid. The KitchenAid 600 mixer now features a metal gear box instead of plastic.

Our Recommendation

Now nothing will ever convince me to part with my Artisan, but if I entertained more or suddenly developed a passion for freshly baked bread or pizza, I would certainly give that beauty a look over…! Tall, sculptural, super efficient, laser sharp, it wouldn’t be far fetched to think of the KitchenAid Professional 600 stand mixer as the Tony Robbins of small appliances.

With a 575-watt motor backed by an all-steel gears transmission, the KitchenAid Professional 600 stand mixer is well equipped to handle just about anything you can throw at it. Combine the Professional 600’s Powerknead spiral dough hook with its 6-quart bowl, and enough bread can be produced to feed a small army, in minutes and without breaking a sweat.

A solid stand mixer for devoted bread makers, the KitchenAid Professional 600 comes in a range of sophisticated colors and finishes to satisfy the most demanding. Function plus style, what more could one ask for?
