Blendtec Blender Reviews

Blendtec blender reviewsBlendtec blender reviews from actual seasoned owners make no secret that versatility is one of the main features these small appliances have to offer.

An amazingly powerful motor coupled with high quality construction make them a force to be reckoned with. No wonder they are some of the most popular and highest quality home blenders currently available anywhere today.

These blenders come packed with a host of great features which are sure to make your meal times easier, healthier and more enjoyable.

Together with stand mixers, blenders are in our opinion some of the most important small appliances in an efficient kitchen. So let’s take a closer look at the features that make these blenders stand out.

What Makes the Blendtec Blender Unique?

• Amazing Versatility

The Blendtec blender truly packs a punch. What would you say if I told you that this unique countertop blender can replace up to nine other kitchen appliances?

That’s right, this little marvel has gone nerdy on us and turned into a bit of a show off: not only does it blend, but it also chops, minces, dices, hashes, grinds, mills, crushes, purees, cooks and freezes – all without a diploma from MIT!

Now if that’s not versatility, I don’t know what is. With a Blendtec blender in your corner, you no longer need a separate grain mill, juicer, bread machine, ice-cream, smoothie or milkshake maker, coffee grinder or ice crusher!

• Outstanding Power and Speed

With such a versatile list of tasks, it’s not surprising that this small appliance needs a whole lot of power to be able to tackle them all as easily as it does. That’s where the motor comes in.

There is no doubt that Blendtec blenders pack a punch when it comes to power. And with good reason, as their commercial grade motor is rated at 1,560 watts which can translate to four times the power of smaller blenders.

The heat created by such a powerful motor gets dissipated through the use of a seven-bladed fan which keeps the motor cool.

High power is what makes these blenders so versatile, enabling them to tackle anything from milk shakes to ice cream, dips to bread dough, grinding grain and coffee beans, and even crushing ice or making hot soup in seconds.

Vying with your favorite smoothie shop, Blendtec home blenders are perfectly capable of dealing with whatever ingredients you throw at them (ice, frozen fruit, raw vegetables…) and reduce them to a perfectly smooth consistency. Don’t believe me? Try an avocado WITH the pit and see for yourself.

But seriously, what else would you expect with a 3-horsepower direct-drive motor capable of spinning the patented two-prong stainless-steel blade at – are you prepared for this – up to 29,000 RPM?

• Proactive Digital Display

Fancy a small appliance that monitors blending time, freeing you up to get other things done in the meantime. Plus, it keeps track of your usage – pity it doesn’t produce champagne to celebrate hallmarks! Even better, those smooth, sealed electronic controls are also easy to clean.

• Unbreakable Drive Socket

A steel-on-steel approach is used to transfer power from motor to blade. A Blendtec blender will quickly detect an overload and promptly shut down. Not only does this increase reliability, but it also helps reduce noise and vibration.

A cheaper alternative is to use a plastic coupling designed to break in case the motor overloads in order to protect the motor. This limits blending power and eventually leaves you with a useless appliance.

• Durable Safety Blade

But all that power would be useless if aimed at a wimpy blade. Made of cold-forged, ultra-hard stainless steel, this unique blade is robust (80% thicker and ten times stronger than other blades) and can handle anything thrown its way. Its blunt design also makes it safe to clean.

Made for better resistance to corrosion, Blendtec’s single blade features vertical wingtips with angles designed precisely so that ingredients get pushed in front or behind the blade with greater power – enabling it to easily pulverize anything in its path.

• Large Easy-Clean Blendtec Jar with All the Right Curves!

Actually… the right curves in the right places! At least, that’s how Blendtech engineers like to think of the jars they lovingly designed. Here’s how they couch their views: working with gravity, the curved bottom of the jar coupled with drain holes makes air drying a breeze – so hands off! Why risk towel drying after all…?

No disassembly required to empty the jar and no grooves in sight to make cleanup hard. Scraping out contents is easy due to flat, smooth sides as well as a broad, single blade. These little marvels are also dishwasher safe.

Like the Professional 800, it comes equipped with a sleek sound enclosure which ensures that the Stealth will not hog the conversation. Quite remarkable, given some of the unique features it was endowed with.

Dare-to-be-Square Blendtec Jars

Made from durable Eastman Tritan copolyester, these jars are BPA free and certified to the NSF standard for food safety in the kitchen.

The square shape is better at blending than traditional round surfaces, plus it generates more friction which means that soups get heated faster. Also, scraping residue from flat sides makes emptying the jar less of a hassle.

Clear, easy-to-read measuring marks (cups, ounces, milliliters and centiliters) are also helpful.

Designed to be stackable, storage is not an issue. Winglets added to the outside corners also prevent wedging. Another benefit is easy drainage, which helps prevent bacteria buildup.

Not content with just keeping the blend inside the jar, the multitasking lid sports a removable vent, allowing steam to escape when blending hot soups. Plus it lets you add ingredients on the fly. Four jar models complement these amazing blending appliances:

  1. FourSide
  2. WildSide+
  3. Twister
  4. Mini WildSide

All of them are compatible with all Blendtec consumer blenders but not with their Mix N’ Blend mixer/blender combo (except for the FourSide).

1. FourSide Jar

FourSideA true original, the FourSide is the first blender jar that dared to be square in order to fully harness the impressive power of the Blendtec blender. It complements the Total TB621-20 and is the only one that is compatible with their Mix N’ Blend.

•Capacity: 75oz (with measurements up to 32oz)
•Vented Gripper lid
•Dimensions: 5.37″W x 9″H x 5.37″D
•Weight: 1.5 lbs
•3-year warranty

The FourSide is perfect for:
-Ice cream
-Grinding grains
-Soups
-Smoothies
-Dips and Batters

2. WildSide+ Jar

WildSide+The WildSide+ is a new and improved version of the discontinued WildSide and is now mostly referred to simply as the ‘WildSide’. This jar truly earns its name and revolutionized the world of high-speed blending.

A narrow fifth side added to the WildSide allows for faster blends, assisted by two vertical ridges that create even more disruption and help accelerate the process. This configuration increases blending efficiency for frozen ingredients by up to 25%!

Instead of the continual spinning pattern of a circular jar, the new WildSide’s angles create an inescapable, highly efficient vortex. Ingredients hit the flat sides of the jar, crawl up until they reach the top of the mix, and then get pulled back down right into the blade – all without the help of a tamper.

And what comes with a square shape? Corners! This ergonomic jar allows you to easily pour from three angles.

•Capacity: 90oz (measurements up to 36oz)
•Vented Gripper lid
•Dimensions: 5.37″W x 9″H x 5.37″D
•Weight: 1.5 lbs
•3-year warranty

Best used for:
-Larger blends
-High-volume recipes
-Bread dough
-Smoothies
-Dips and Batters

3. Twister Jar

TwisterSimply add your ingredients, and then twist the lid counter-clockwise while the blend cycle is running. This simple motion will force the ingredients from the sides of the jar back into the vortex and towards the blade for a perfect blend.

•Capacity: 37oz (with measurements up to 16oz)
•Patented Twister lid with tines that rotate and push ingredients off the side and back into the blending vortex
•Mini Gripper lid for containing thinner blends
•Spectacula spatula
•Recipe book
•Dimensions: 5.7″W x 7.5″H (with lid) x 5.7″D (7″ including spout & handle)
•Weight: 1.3 lbs
•3-year warranty

Entrust your thickest blends to the Twister (and avoid marring the surface of your regular jar):
-Bread & cookie crumbs
-Nut butters
-Hummus
-Baby food
-Dips
-Dressings
-Thick shakes
-Single-serve smoothies

4. Mini WildSide Jar

Mini Wildside+Not a slacker by any means, this Mini jar just likes to get personal.

•Capacity: 46oz (with measurements up to 24oz)
•Latching lid to keep vigorous blends inside the jar
•Dimensions: 4.7″W x 7″H x 4.7″D
•Weight: 1.02 lbs
•3-year warranty

The WildSide Mini jar is best reserved for:
-Single-serve blends
-Salad dressings

The Rebel+ jar will not be addressed here, as it is manufactured by Blendtec strictly for the Vitamix blender and does not fit any of their own blenders.

Jar warranty extends to 3 years. You can find their jars here, whether you are looking for a Blendtec replacement jar or just want an additional jar dedicated to making nut butters or grinding coffee beans in order to avoid marring the surface of your jar.

Blendtec Blenders Pros

• Encourages a Healthy Lifestyle

It simply makes life so much easier for you. The penny will drop when you suddenly find yourself making healthy smoothies every morning.

• Very Easy to Use

This little whiz of an appliance can tackle a huge array of recipes without breaking a sweat. Put your ingredients into the jar, choose your settings based on your recipe, sit back and enjoy!

In order to avoid cavitation where nothing gets blended, make sure to add your ingredients in the correct order:
– start with liquids and high moisture foods
– add softer foods
– finish with ice and solid items

Pre-programmed cycles really take the guess work out of blending.

For added customization, both the Professional 800 and the Commercial 875 allow you to access Blendtec’s Blender Wizard online and add profiles through a clever USB port, making it even easier to blend your favorite drinks – you can even store up to 14 on the Commercial!

• Easy to Clean

In fact, some say “ridiculously easy to clean”. Rinse, add warm water with a little detergent, run for a few seconds before a final rinse. What more could one wish for?

• Small Footprint

Taking into account its versatility, this small appliance occupies a really small footprint.

• Generous Warranty

Blendtec likes to brag about how it stands behind its blenders by offering “the longest, most comprehensive warranty in the industry”. However, many customers have complained about warranty being ignored or their having to jump through hoops in order to get service.

Blendtec reviews target the Designer in particular. Some buyers were appalled to find their defective blenders replaced with refurbished ones – sometimes even of lesser models.

Make sure you fully understand the terms of the manufacturer’s limited warranty before committing. Also make a point of clarifying who is responsible for shipping fees when getting a replacement if you live outside the United States. The choice of carrier dictates who gets charged for delivery: you or the company.

…& Cons

An ultra powerful motor provides Blendtech blenders with incredible versatility, making them true wizards of the blending world. But there can be drawbacks to equipping small appliances with beastly motors:

• Noise

Again, considering that this blender can take care of most recipes in seconds, this may be a moot point for you or a deal breaker altogether. Not an issue with the Professional 800 and the Commercial.

• Stability

Doing the jitterbug all over your countertop is an issue with the lighter Total, Classic and Designer models – less so with the Professional 750 which is a little heavier. If you don’t want to have to keep tabs on your blender, you might want to consider the heavier Professional 800 or the Commercial models.

• Overheating

Cases of blenders overheating have been reported both with the Classic and the Designer, as well as lids blowing up. The manufacturer recommends applying pressure on each corner of the lid individually in order to ensure that it is securely attached.

• Low Quality Sealing

The rubber seals have been reported to degrade over time and start to leave bits of rubber in the jar.

• Jar

The polycarbonate blender jar can get scratched when using hard ingredients like nuts and grains. The Twister model was created specifically for that. Leaking occurs occasionally mostly with the Total and Classic.

Blendtec Reviews: our Conclusion

Blendtec Sous-ChefsThere is no doubting Blendtec’s enthusiasm and powers of innovation regarding their beloved blenders. Engineers responsible for putting together these beasts call themselves “certifiable”. Watch a smattering of Tom Dickson’s ‘Does It Blend?’ videos, and ‘possessed’ comes to mind! 😉

Blendtec blenders represent a standard by which other blenders are measured. Having said that, some models are more equal than others, and not every one of them will meet your personal requirements.

If you are searching for the elusive quiet blender, look no further than the Blendtec Stealth 875 Commercial. It is expensive, but everyone living in close proximity will be forever thankful. Being able to carry a conversation while operating an industrial strength power appliance represents a marvel of engineering and is certainly something to be grateful for. Its short warranty is the only drawback – but it is a commercial small appliance after all!

Nicknamed ‘the beast’ for good reason, the Blendtec Professional 800 offers amazing value for a more accessible price. The residential version of their Commercial blender, its sound enclosure also reduces the roaring to a purr.

Noisier but certainly a great deal value wise, the Professional 750 is another great choice.

And finally for occasional blending, the Classic 575 is fully equipped to handle whatever challenge you throw its way. Slightly more expensive than the Total, it comes with the more efficient WildSide jar.

Oh, and if chopping is on your agenda – and despite what the boys at Blendtec claim – this is a task better left to a food processor (specially when using hard vegetables). Unless of course you don’t mind a mushed up, goopy blob…
