KitchenAid Pasta Press Main Features
Want to broaden your Italian pasta repertoire? The KSMPEXTA KitchenAid pasta extruder set allows you to make tube-shaped pasta (rigatoni, bucatini, small or large macaroni), as well as fusilli. It even includes a spaghetti attachment for you spaghetti lovers!
Attach the pasta press/extruder to the hub of your stand mixer, position your selected plate, and start feeding balls of dough through the hopper, using the combo tool to push dough into the press. Cut the noodles to desired length using the built-in wire cutter, et voila… dinner taken care of!
The Kitchen Aid pasta press is made of durable plastic housing. Bits of pasta are fed into the hopper. Driven by the mixer hub, the auger feeds the dough to the pasta press which houses a particular plate to make your selected pasta. Using the pusher, the dough is then forced through the press. The cutter is then used to cut pasta at the desired length.
The storage case houses five plates, while the sixth plate sits in the pasta press. When you’re all done, snap the case onto the pasta press attachment for storage – very neat!
The combo tool is used to take apart the pasta press at the bottom, while its flat end serves for pushing dough into the press. The wrench will likely be needed to loosen the pasta ring after making fresh pasta, and the hook is for removing the auger from the casing.
Measures approximately 5 ½” L x 5” W x 8 ¼” H; weighs 3lbs 4oz.
The pasta ring, auger and combo tool can be washed in the dishwasher, though the other pieces should be hand washed. It’s worth noting that the plates come apart for cleaning using the tip of a knife. The attachment housing should be wiped clean and not immersed in water.
KSMPEXTA KitchenAid Pasta Extruder Pros & Cons
Cleaning may present an issue, specially for people with weak hands. As dough gets trapped in the threads, changing plates can become a challenge, though it is much easier to accomplish with clean plates.
A wood pusher would be preferable to plastic.
The majority of users love their KSMPEXTA KitchenAid pasta press and find that it makes pasta making relatively easy, though some cooks may find that it takes some getting used to.
